Dining Room Supervisor (Senior Living)

The Dining Room Supervisor assists the dining room manager to maintain a high standard of appearance, hospitality and service in personnel and cleanliness of Community dining rooms and venues. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining hospitality standards, interviewing onboarding and training of new dining room team members. Supports the dining room manager to monitor labor expenses to stay within budget.

As a food and beverage supervisor positivity and a sense of urgency is a must. An up-beat attitude is necessary, and a resident-first mind set is mandatory. Being able to multitask and make well thought out decisions is required.

Principle Duties:

  • Team Supervision

    • Assists with planning, scheduling, supervising, educating and coaching dining room personnel.

    • Tracks and participates in new hire onboarding.

    • Assists in assuring staff education is provided to dining room personnel in accordance with the staff education plan, competencies, plus provides on-the-job training for dining room personnel.

    • Supervises and leads staff to maintain high level hospitality.

    • Able to lead staff through meal service venues, special events, etc.

    • Hands-on during meal service as needed.

    • Educates and enforces team members to consistently adhere to proper and clean uniform standards.

    • Attends scheduled staff meetings.

  • Dining Room Operations

    • Serves as liaison between dining and kitchen staff.

    • Takes reservations, checks table reservation schedules.

    • Assists dining room manager to direct pre-meal meetings with dining personnel, relays information such a new items and menu changes, special events, etc.

    • Serve as opening and closing supervisor and thoroughly completes associated job duties in efficient manner. Ensures opening and closing checklists signed off and filed.

    • Works effectively with management to coordinate staff for special functions and large parties. These duties will also require knowledge of event set-up and operation.

    • Oversees banquet operation including set-up, presentation, serving and clean-up.

  • Maintenance Dining Room Standards:

    • Schedules daily work assignments for all dining room personnel, assigning specific jobs and spot checking to ensure standards are met.

    • Assists dining room manager to inspect and maintain cleanliness standards and physical appearance of the dining room area and wait stations.

    • Responsible for pre-opening and post-closing dining room walk-throughs to ensure dining room venues are organized and duties completed.

    • Inspects all side work is accomplished and all cleaning of equipment and storage areas is completed according to schedule.

  • Hospitality and Service Recovery

    • Inspires team to connect with residents and implement “moments” for residents and colleagues.

    • Assists dining room manager to respond timely to resolve concerns/complaints regarding dining services.

    • Makes suggestions and improvements in dining services procedures.

    • Demonstrates “aim for excellence” by taking immediate steps when appropriate for service recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Must maintain positivity, sense of urgency and promote STAR Core Values
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience in “front of house operations” in a hotel, restaurant, or club; fine dining experience preferred.
  • Must have at least 1 year of bar experience.
  • Strong clerical skills with the ability to use Microsoft Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • High school diploma/GED. Courses in Hospitality Management or dining room operations from college or trade school preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work with residents, guests, visitors, families, managers and peers. Requires courtesy, tact and graciousness.
